Counselling
We have counselling support available for both the children and parents
Child Counselling:
As part of the pastoral team, Underwood Academy have a fulltime, BACP registered school counsellor, Mr Dawson.
Placing emphasis on adverse childhood experiences (ACE’s), counselling offers an opportunity for children to explore and process their feelings around these traumatic experiences.
As well as talking therapies, this can be supported by the use of a variety of approaches including art, music, sand tray and therapeutic play.
Working with all age groups, sessions are child led and with the building of a trusting relationship, children are supported to disclose whatever is troubling them at their own pace, and with the freedom to express and communicate in a way that is right for them, regardless of age or developmental stage.
Sessions for referred children (referred by staff or parents) are held in school on a weekly basis, in a safe and confidential setting.
Parent Counselling:
At Underwood West we are fortunate enough to have been given the opportunity to work in partnership with Motherwell. We have a qualified counsellor who comes into school once a week to support any of our parents in need of emotional support. These referrals are treated with the strictest confidence.
