Author Engagement
William Hussey
Year 6 took part in a live session with author William Hussey where he shared his book 'The Boy I Love.'
Tyler Kettlewell - He is an author that wrote a book about 2 people who are gay in World War 1 but it wasn't allowed at all but he told us all about the book and showed us some pictures of young men in the war. It links to our Take One Book story about Walter Tull. We got lucky, because at the end he read part of his book to us. I highly recommend it because even though we only heard a bit it was still amazing.
Caiden Lee Law - I liked that it linked to our Take One Book book. It was very interesting.
Scarlett Tann - William Hussey talked about his book called The Boy I Loved. It is a gay romance set in WW1. He said that it took him 3 years of research. He also said that some of the youngest soldiers were only 16.
Skye Dean - I enjoyed how the author explained that in every book he has written he has to do a lot of research about the topic. I also enjoyed the fact that he started wanting to write books just from reading a comic. He explained that anyone could be an author just by wanting to.
Rob Biddulph
Before Christmas, the WHOLE school joined in with a live event with Rob. He shared his journey to becoming an author and illustrator. He read us his new book - I Follow The Fox. Then we all took part in a 'Draw along with Rob' - We created some amazing pictures of a Christmas rhino.
Anna Kemp
KS1 took part in a live session with Anna Kemp. The children looked at story book characters, heard Anna's new story and also learnt some ballet steps! It was great fun.
Mini Grey
At the start of the autumn term, class 2W received some post from their class author Mini Grey. They were really excited to read the questions and answers. The children are now looking forward to writing Mini Grey some more questions after reading some of her wonderful stories!
Katherine Rundell
On Wednesday 18th September, our Year 6 children took part in a live author session with the wonderful Katherine Rundell (Rooftoppers, The Explorer). This was an excellent opportunity to learn about the process of writing a book for a specific audience from a world-famous writer. We enjoyed meeting Katherine and taking part in the lesson.
Turell - It was interesting when she talked about climbing on the roofs and how she always used real experiences in her books. I also liked that she used her imagination to say that someone may have been living on the roof because of a bottle she found.
Tegan- The story she told about the man walking on the tightrope and how it inspired her and how she switches off from the world when she does it. I like how focused she is when she writes stories and includes things about her life.
